GB Halloween: I found this in the post-Halloween photo blitz on The Arab Parrot and I thought it was worth re-posting.

Joe Nelson at Wishing Well Crew organized this Thanksgiving Jam to benefit The Eli Home at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, California on November 21st and Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, California on November 22nd.

Thanksgiving Jam. features acoustic musical performances by H.R. along with; Walter Schreifels from the notable bands Quicksand, and Gorilla Biscuits, Jonah Matranga of the band FAR, Jeff Pezzati from the Chicago punk band Naked Raygun, and Steve Soto of the Orange County band Adolescents. The event also will hold an art show featuring works for sale by the performing musicians along with other local artists.

Back at the end of June, Glen Cummings and Adam Michaels assembled an exhibition at the experimental project space W/———, in Manhattans Chinatown, documenting the X symbol and its use in music culture. I missed the show because it was only up for one weekend, and Gary didn’t think it was important to tell me about it, but Glen and Adam have collected the project into an exhibit catalog that you can purchase here.

X documents the trajectory of the X symbol within (and without) underground music culture. As the first step of an ongoing project, the exhibition opening will launch a book presenting initial visual research. Building upon the varied meanings and form of the X, the show presents experiments in a range of media; attendees are encouraged to contribute materials to future iterations of the project.

The book features contributions from Radio Silence contributor and Hardcore Archaeologist Jeremy Dean as well as Michael Brenner, Jordan Carver, Kathryn Holter, Kevin Wade Shaw, Justin Michael Smith, Stewart Smith, and Chris Wu.

X (the publication) is available for $10 (+ tax & shipping)

John Joseph will be reading from his book The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon tonight at Solas in the East Village as part of St. Marks Books Reading Series at Solas.

An evening with John Joseph! (of Cro-Mags fame, author of Evolution of a Cro-Magnon and Meat is for Pussies). The St. Mark’s Bookshop Reading Series at Solas (that’s our favorite bar around the corner) features the same eclectic mix you’ll find in the bookshop’s stacks. You’ll see some of the best poetry, fiction and contemporary thought the East Village has to offer, two Thursdays a month. All readings begin at 7:30 PM, sharp.
